Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe visiting the blast site at the Zion church in Batticaloa today vowed to end Islamic State terrorism in Sri Lanka.
“Many of the perpetrators are already in police custody. Some of them are dead. Security forces are taking necessary action. International organisations are also assisting us in our efforts. We have employed state of the art equipment and strategies in this exercise,” he said.
“We are also on the lookout for any other secret groups that may be operating in the country besides [the National Thawheed Jammath]. I say to you here and now that we will eradicate ISIS terrorism from this country,” he added, urging the public to come forward with any information that might help in the task.
Wickremesinghe also oversaw the distribution of Rs. 1 million each among the families of the Easter bombing victims as compensation. Up to Rs. 500,000 each was also paid to those injured in the attack.
