‘80 percent of the Easter Sunday victims are compensated – MP Kavinda

UNP MP Kavinda Jayawardena says that the Government has compensated more than 80 percent of the people who were affected by the Easter Sunday terrorist attacks.

Participating at a press conference held at the Temple Trees today (28), Jayawardena said that RS.233 mn have thus far been paid to victims or their families who were affected by bomb blasts at eight different places.

“A total of 261 people were injured from the Katuwapitiya bomb blasts and 113 lost their lives and we have so far paid Rs.103 mn for the deceased. Thirty people lost their lives and 67 got injured from Zion church bomb blast and we have paid Rs.26 mn for the deceased whereas 48 lost their lives and 62 got injured from Kochchikade blast and we have paid Rs.33 mn for the deceased,” Jayawardana said.

Jayawardana further said that those who sustained injuries have also been compensated and if necessary, the government is taking measures to provide medical assistance in foreign countries for the injured.

“On Monday (01) we have a special meeting to discuss further on the matter. We have also introduced a telephone number to contact the compensation office if there are any compensation-related problems,” MP added.
