Dimuth Karunaratne apologizes

Sri Lankan cricketer Dimuth Karunaratne is apologizing through his Facebook account for the accident that took place in Borella Sunday morning.

According to Police Spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekara, Karunaratna was released on two surety bail postings of Rs. 100,000 each by the Narahenpita Traffic Court Magistrate. The cricketer has already promised to purchase a new three-wheeler for the victim.

According to the media release of Sri Lanka Cricket Board(SLCB), Sri Lanka Cricket will also follow the due process as per his ‘Player Contractual Obligation’ with the organization and conduct an inquiry in order to take necessary action.

The top cricketer had allegedly been under the influence when the vehicle he was driving hit a three-wheeler in the early hours of Sunday (31 March), injuring the three-wheeler driver who was subsequently admitted to hospital.

The hearing will continue on 29 May.
