General Secretary of Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) Dayasiri Jayasekara says his party is divided and destroyed.
This he said is because after 2005 the SLFP has failed to produce a proper leader for the party.
“Former President Chandrika Kumaratunga gave the leadership of the party to Mahinda Rajapaksa in 2005 but after that, until 2015 SLFP could not produce at least one leader for the future of the party,” he added
Speaking at an SLFP event in Puttalam today (13 Aug) the General Secretary said that the former leader of the party, appointed prime ministers who were old, deaf, blind and who didn’t have the strength to speak properly.
He also said that Maithripala Sirisena had to leave the party with some others in 2015 because of those failures in the party.
He pointed out that the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) had to nominate a man without any experience in politics or in the party as the Presidential Candidate as a result of these failures.
“The two parties were left abandoned and had to go behind other leaders,” he added.
He also said that they had a left-progressive force and not a force with the UNP. ” It is that force that was divided as the SLFP and the SLPP,” Jayasekara said.
“Today the party is broken into two, destroyed and let down but I assure in 5 years time our party would be the first party of the country again,” said Jayasekara
