Parliamentarian supporting Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Shehan Semasinghe said that if SLFP General Secretary Dayasiri Jayasekara wants to take legal action against Mahinda Rajapaksa and other MPs for crossing over then he has the freedom to do so.
Speaking to media this morning (12 Aug) he said SLPP is ready to face any legal charges against them.
Also, MP Janaka Wakkumbura who was present said that if SLFP wants to take legal action against crossovers to the SLPP then they should first look into the SLFP MPs who joined the UNP government last year.
Semasinghe said Gotabaya Rajapaksa was nominated as the presidential candidate on 11 Aug after resolving all the problems related to his US citizenship.
Further he said that SLFP-SLPP discussions were started with the intention of forming a front against the UNP and not decide on the presidential candidate.
Semasinghe also added that Sarath Fonseka has not spoken about supporting the SLPP and that there is no agreement with UNP through him.
“We have a lot of problems about his political position but when it comes to National Security the Joint opposition, Mahinda Rajapaksa and Sarath Fonseka are in the same position,” Semasinghe said.
