The Centre for Monitoring Election Violence (CMEV) has made a written request to the National Election Commission demanding that they address complaints made by voters in the Colombo District that they have been disenfranchised by Grama Niladharis who have omitted them from voters’ lists.
RepublicNext first reported that several long-time residents of Dehiwela had found to their amazement that they were not on the voters’ list for the Presidential poll when they did not get their Polling Cards.
One couple, Shewantha and Savithri Rodrigo, took to Social Media with this story and attracted dozens of people who have suffered the same fate.
Shewantha Rodrigo told RepublicNext that he had seen the voters’ list the District Elections office in Colombo where the GS has crossed off the names of residents depriving them of their franchise.

This morning CMEV wrote to the NEC with three demands:
The letter also stressed that given the urgency of the situation “and the need for immediate redress to ensure that the affected persons are not deprived of their franchise, we urge you to inform the general public as well by way of extensive publicity in all the appropriate channels.”
If you are a victim please send your details to the following email address: email@example.com and we will convey that information to the CMEV investigators
