“The Mahinda Rajapaksa regime could not develop the country for 10 years. If so I ask if it’s possible to develop the country by changing the name and taking power,” said Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe in an event in Kurunegala yesterday (11 Aug).
” Boiled in milk or fried in oil the bird is the same whatever you do the dove cannot be an eagle,” he added.
Wickremesinghe also said that reconciliation in the country did not take place after the war. Instead, there were many problems. “But in the midst of all these challenges, we have come forward by being reconciled for the past five years,”
“Sri Lanka’s exports have been reduced from 30% to 18% during the 10 years of Rajapaksa rule, GSP Plus the concession was gone. The country was isolated before the world,” Prime Minister said.
He said that within five years they were able to move forward while the rebuilding country. The previous regime couldn’t protect press freedom, democracy and the independence of the Supreme Court for 10 years.
There was a white van culture in the country and the country deteriorated in every way.
“The people have to decide whether they will go back to such a destructive era or continue the program carried out during the last five years to develop the country and build their future,” he added.
