President Maithripala Sirisena is saying that the aim of the terrorists is to divide this nation along ethnic and communal lines and create chaos in the country.
He was speaking at the State Vesak ceremony in Galle on Friday.
The President alluded to the mob violence several areas in the North Western province.
He said that the Easter Sunday attacks happened because of an international issue.
“We in Sri Lanka should not turn that into an issue in our country and create disturbances,” he added.
“Whatever criticism has been leveled at me it is true that ever since the April 21 attacks I have taken every step to ensure the safety and security of the nation,” he said.
“The truth travels slowly, but falsehoods spread quickly,” he added.
He did not condemn the violence directed at the Mulsim minority which left at least one person dead.
The state ceremonies were held at the Thotagamuwa Rathpath Raja Maha Viharaya.
