Regulator says proper process to introduce power cuts not followed and therefore they are illegal
The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) has announced that it would take legal action against the Ceylon Electricity Board if it went ahead with power cuts today.
PUCSL Communications Director Jayanath Herath told Republic Next that the CEB is legally required to consult the PUCSL before going for scheduled power cuts, and so far they had yet to be informed of any such plans on the part of the CEB.
“The Commission has so far not been sent a power cut schedule for approval. Since it’s illegal for the CEB to go ahead with scheduled power cuts without PUCSL approval, we will consider taking legal action if there are power cuts today,” said Herath.
A purported schedule of power cut was leaked to social media yesterday. Click here to download.
