The Sri Lankan High Commission in Pakistan is refuting a Pakistani newspaper report that said Pakistan’s trade with Sri Lanka has come to a halt.
The story appeared in the Express Tribune of Pakistan on 20 May 2019.
Issuing a statement today (23), the SL High Commission confirmed that the Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Karachi has contacted Aslam Pakhali, to whom the statement in the news report had been attributed.
‘Mr Pakhali had not made such statement or provided any such information to the newspaper as reported’, the statement said.
The High Commission added that Pakhali has neither met the High Commissioner of Sri Lanka and nor has he led a delegation as it was reported.
‘The news item has been published without proper verification of the facts it contained’ SL High Commission added.
