SLPP unsure which election, Presidential, Provincial Council or Parliamentary General poll would come first
Leader of the Opposition Mahinda Rajapaksa says his party, the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna is yet to decide who its Presidential candidate will be at a future Presidential election.
He made the comment when he talked to selected Media Heads in Colombo yesterday (26).
The former President says it is not possible to decide on a candidate when it isn’t clear whether Parliamentary, Provincial Council or Presidential elections were going to be held first, an official who was present at the meeting told RepublicNext.
Reports that the SLPP had chosen former Defense Secretary and the former President’s younger brother Gotabaya Rajapaksa as the candidate have been circulating in the Media over the past week.
Multiple outlets have also reported that the younger Rajapaksa has filed his papers to renounce his US citizenship as a precursor to accepting the SLPP nomination on March 6.
