Madumadawa quits as PHU deputy

The Deputy Leader of Pivithuru Hela Urumaya (PHU) Madumadawa Aravinda has resigned from his position in the party following an anti-muslim speech given by him at one of the divisional meetings last week.

The video of the speech given by him was shared multiple times on social media platforms in the past few days.

Aravinda in his resignation letter addressed to the leader of PHU Udaya Gammanpila said that he took the decision after in-depth consideration of the matter when it was brought up at the central committee of the party.

In his letter, he further said that he would like to apologize for the damaged caused to the image of the party through his speech.

Accordingly, Madumadawa has resgned from the post of deputy leader and all the other posts held by him in the party including the membership of the central committee.
