The Supreme Court today (12) ordered the Attorney General to file contempt of court charges against Actor-Politician Ranjan Ramanayake within a month.

This is over remarks Ramanayake is alleged to have made about the five-judge bench of the Supreme Court that deliberated over Constitutional issues after the order given by President Maithripala Sirisena to dissolve Parliament in November, last year.

Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya and Justices Vijith Malalgoda and Murdu Fernando presided.

The case will be heard on 30 July.
