The Court of Appeal will on 26 July deliver a ruling on the revision application filed by Former Secretary to the Ministry of Defence Gotabaya Rajapaksa against the controversial Avant Garde case.

In his revision application, Rajapaksa seeks an acquittal from the charges filed against him in the Colombo Magistrate’s Court by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABC).

Justices Achala Wengapulli and Arjuna Obeysekara heard the appeal today.

The CIABC filed the case against the presidential hopeful under Section 70 of the Bribery Act, alleging that he had allowed Avant Garde Maritime Services to operate a floating armoury from August 2012 to January 2015, violating the law and providing an unlawful income to the company of some Rs. 11.4 billion.
