Minister of Plantation Industries Navin Dissanayake said he personally believes that all powers granted by the 13th Amendment to the Constitution should be given to the Tamil people as a proper political solution to the national question.
Speaking at an event held in Mullaitivu yesterday 12 Aug, Dissanayake said the Amendment must be fully implemented granting land rights and police powers to the Provincial Councils.
“Sinhala politicians must reasonably look into the demands of the Tamil people. If not, we will have to face a big problem in the future,” the Minister said.
Old ideas that were prevalent a few decades ago have now changed, he said.
“The concepts of the 1960s and ’70s are no longer prevalent. Young politicians will never try to acquire your land forcibly. The land belongs to you. We will never let old concepts and ideas of colonization arise again,” Dissanayake added.
