Sri Lanka’s Ambassador-designate to the Republic of Austria Saroja Sirisena assumed duties in Vienna yesterday (1 July).
Addressing embassy staff, Sirisena said a top priority for the Sri Lanka mission will be to partner with the Austrian outbound travel industry and help rebuild tourism in Sri Lanka which took a major hit from the Easter Sunday attacks.
The new ambassador also highlighted the need to mprove the image of Sri Lanka in Austria, focusing on elevating political and economic relations between the two countries.
The career-diplomat previously served as Director General of Economic Affairs, Director General of Public Diplomacy and Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, prior to her appointment in Vienna.
Sirisena also served as the Sri Lanka Consul General in Mumbai from July 2014 to March 2018.
