Chinese President Xi Jinping pledged Rs. 2.6 billion for defence spending, among other pledges of assistance, the official Government news portal news.lk reported.
The meeting, held at Xi’s residence in Beijing, saw the Chinese President assuring “all possible assistance” to Sri Lanka in eradicating terrorism in the country and ensuring national security.
According to news.lk, Xi has agreed to immediately release 100 jeeps costing a total of Rs. 1.5 billion and other equipment to the Sri Lanka Police Department. The two governments also signed an agreement promoting closer cooperation in the field of defence, the Government news portal reported.
