Cabinet has greenlit an investment of Rs. 800 million to clean up the Beira Lake.
The proposal was presented by Minister of Megapolis and Western Development Patali Champika Ranawaka on behalf of the Sri Lanka Land Reclamation and Development Corporation.
According to a statement issued by the Cabinet Office, the project aims to protect the lake water system and beautify the surrounding area which is currently being used as a commercial and residential centre.
The project includes the cleaning of sludge, reconstruction of the sluice, checking the quality of the water and prevention of spreading debris and pollutants in the Beira Lake.
