The strong winds that were prevalent over the past few days are expected to die down from tomorrow (10), the Department of Meteorology said today (09).
However, a sudden increase of wind speeds up to 60–65kmph is likely today in the Northern, North-central, North-western and Central provinces and Trincomalee, Colombo and Gampaha districts particularly in the afternoon and at night.
Wind speeds are expected to increase up to 40–50kmph in other parts of the island, the Met Department said.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern and North-western provinces while several spells of showers will occur in Mannar, Jaffna and Anuradhapura districts.
Heavy falls above 75 mm are likely at some places in the Western, Central, North-western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and Galle and Matara districts, the Met Department added.
