Heavy rain and winds are expected to increase further tomorrow (08) as the south-west monsoon is gradually establishing over the island, the Department of Meteorology said today (07).
Showers or thundershowers will occur in Western, Southern, Central, Sabaragamuwa and North-western provinces.
Heavy rainfalls above 100 mm are expected particularly in Southern and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Kalutara district whereas heavy falls above 50 mm can be expected in Gampaha, Colombo, Puttalam, and Nuwara-Eliya districts.
The Met Department further said that showers or thundershowers may occur at several places elsewhere over the island particularly after 2.00 pm whereas heavy falls above 50 mm can be expected at some places in Eastern and Uva provinces.
Issuing an advisory, the Met Department further noted that surges can be expected in the sea areas extending from Beruwala to Hambantota via Galle.
