The strike action launched by railway employees and the Ceylon Teachers’ Service Union (CTSU) will continue today (27).
Speaking to RepublicNext, Locomotive Engine Operators’ Union (LEOU) Secretary Indika Dodangoda said that the railway strike will be carried out indefinitely since the authorities still haven’t been able to resolve their salary anomalies.
“We did not receive any positive response from the relevant authorities. Nor has anyone requested us to end the strike. So we will continue it,” Dodangoda said.
Meanwhile, CTSU Secretary Joseph Stalin said that although the two-day strike carried out by teachers affiliated with CTSU union will end today, the union will launch another strike from 7 and 12 October.
“We have already decided to launch a strike in October since our discussions with the Coordinating Secretary to the President failed. We have not received any response from the Education Ministry either,” Stalin said.
