Hunger strike against the signing of MCC agreement called off

The hunger strike carried out by Udumbara Kashyapa Thero against the signing of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) agreement was called off yesterday (05).

TheThero has arrived at the decision after considering the letters sent by Democratic National Front (DNF) presidential candidate Sajith Premadasa and Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) presidential candidate Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

In his letter, Premadasa has assured the Monk that the Government has decided not to sign the agreement prior to the presidential election which is scheduled to be held on November 16.

“The Government has decided not to sign the MCC agreement until the 16th of November. Thereafter, if the agreement is to be signed, it will be done so after a Parliamentary debate. Further matters concerning the agreement will be dealt with after obtaining the advice from the Maha Sanga,” the letter quoted Premadasa as saying.
