Sri Lanka is to re-introduce the free visa on arrival facility for citizens of 46 countries with effect from August 1, Minister of Tourism John Amaratunga said.
Addressing an event at Shangri-La hotel in Colombo yesterday (23 July), Amaratunga said that given the visa, tourists are allowed to stay in the country one month and then extend as per their requirements.
Accordingly, free visa facility will be introduced to 46 countries including China, India, Russia, Sweden and England.
The Cabinet has previously given the approval to continue a project which would issue on arrival visas but it was suspended due to security reasons in the aftermath of the Easter Sunday attacks.
Visa on arrival facility will be given with the intention of promoting Sri Lanka’s tourism.
