The Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB), in partnership with a number of state and private sector stakeholders, today introduced five promotional tour packages targeting Indian tourists.
The packages will include a combination of stays in Colombo, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Dambulla, Sigiriya and the south coast of the island, with various budget options, SLTPB said. The offer is valid from 10 June to 30 September this year.
SLTPB has partnered with the the Sri Lanka Association of Inbound Tour Operators (SLAITO) and SriLankan Airlines, with the objective of attracting toursits in the aftermath of the devastating Easter Sunday attacks.
Speaking to journalists in Colombo today, SLTPB Chairman Kishu Gomes said the Bureau is taking steps to bring more Indian tourists to the country.
The Government will “do what it takes”, said Gomes, to boost Sri Lanka’s tourism sector which took a major hit from the terrorist attacks.
Tourism Minister John Amaratunga, who also spoke at the press event announcing the packages, said the Indian market has been the largest tourism source market to Sri Lanka over the past decade, and in order to attract more tourists, SLTPB will launch a special promotional campaign in India.
“We look forward to activating this campaign as soon as possible in India and looking at similar offers in other key source markets including China which is expected to be rolled out in the future, ” he said.
