Minister of Ports and Shipping Johnston Fernando has ordered the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) to take immediate action with regard to the beautification of the Galle Face Green within this week.
According to sources, Fernando gave the directive to the SLPA’s Managing Director after carrying out an inspection tour of the Galle Face Green on Saturday (30 Nov).
A video posted on the Minister’s official Facebook page shows him instructing shopkeepers at the Green to carry out their trading activities without disturbing visitors until a permanent place is set up for them by the Ministry.
The Minister also ordered the SLPA to clean the blocked drainage lines and maintain clean toilets at Galle Face in order to provide a pleasant environment to the visiting public.
The Galle Face Green and its surroundings come under the direct purview of the SLPA.
