The Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) temporarily cancelled leave for all staff today in order to implement a special island-wide transport plan in the face of the ongoing railway strike.
SLTB Chairman Upali Marasinghe said depot superintendents have been instructed to operate buses out of railway stations close to their respective bus stand, accommodating the maximum number of trips without any inconvenience to passengers.
Instructions were also issued to act accordingly at times during off-peak traffic, he said.
Based on the decision, leave of all SLTB staff including drivers, conductors, and technical staff are temporarily cancelled.
Railway trade unions launched their strike at midnight yesterday based on unresolved salary anomalies. Night mail train service would also be halted from midnight today.
