The President of the Lanka Private Bus Owners’ Association (LPBOA) Gemunu Wijeratne is saying that the private buses are available islandwide, therefore, the commuters will not face inconvenience due to the railway strike.
“There won’t be a problem for the commuters because private buses are available across the island. We have informed the relevant authorities that we will provide additional buses during the weekend. The train strike will only be an issue to those with season tickets. So the SLTB must give them some support,” Wijeratne told RepublicNext.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) has decided to cancel leave of all of its workers due to the railway strike.
Railway trade unions launched a 48-hour token strike from yesterday midnight (20) as the discussions with the Finance Minister regarding the workers’ salary anomalies failed.
