Five Indian fishermen arrested in Sri Lankan waters

The Navy apprehended five Indian fishermen for alleged poaching in Sri Lanka’s territorial waters yesterday (18).

The fishermen were arrested in a patrol carried out in the seas northwest to the Kovilam Point, the Navy said in a statement.

A fishing trawler was also seized along with the fishermen.

The arrested fishermen are due to be handed over to the Assistant Director of Fisheries in Jaffna for further legal action, the Navy added.
